Stall Holder Spotlight - Sarah from Greendrop - Ecocraft

Greendrop - Ecocraft
This time next week we will all be enjoying ourselves at our
Winter Twilight Market.
To tempt you with more goodies that will be on offer next Friday,
we caught up with Sarah from Greendrop Ecocraft for our third Stallholder spotlight interview.

1. What do you create? –
"Handmade sustainable craft" - my current collection includes playthings & clothing for babies & children; hair accessories & jewellery for big & small people; a selection of home wares & relaxing treats. All my creations feature Organic Cotton, Ecofelt or other sustainable fibres.

2.    What is your favourite thing that you sell?
My Rattles - the Owl and Horse ones especially.

3.    How long have you been making/baking/creating?
Since I was about 7-8 years old, but "selling" since October last year following the fabulous 'Make Craft your Business' course @ TWNH. It was the perfect mix of support & 'kick start" that I needed.

4.    Who inspires you to create?
Mother Nature - I love creating handmade designs of animals, patterns & shapes I find in our environment, using materials that don't further pollute the planet.

5.    What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?
A mix of my hidden agenda (to show others that you can create beautiful handmade items using environmentally friendly materials) and the opportunity to hang out with like-minded crafty people! This has definitely been the highlight of my market & course experience so far.

6.    Coffee or tea?
Coffee!

7.    And how many do you need to be market ready?
2 - One at home, one at set-up. Will happily accept a 3rd should some lovely person bring it to me!

8.    What's the best thing about living in the Thornbury area?
Great coffee, cool shops and to get my organic grocery fix at "Naturally on High".

9.    Name three crafty things that you can't live without:
Inspiration, patience and my trusty sewing machine.

10. One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....?
I'm friendly & love to talk about the materials I use, come and say hello!

Stall Holder Spotlight - Jo from Dusty Plum

DustyPlum

Our July 29th Market is getting closer, so time to introduce a new stall holder.
Jo from  Dusty Plum  creates beautiful accessories  with fabric covered buttons.
A Thornbury mum this will be Dusty Plum's first market,
make sure you stop by and say hello at her lovely stall.
Dusty Plum

1. What do you create ?
I make accessories such as hair ties, necklaces and brooches using covered buttons. I have long had a love of beautiful fabrics but alas even after extended sewing classes at the Thornbury Women’s Neighbourhood House I had to admit defeat, I do not have the sewing gene. Making buttons allows me to indulge my love of fabric whilst not sewing a stitch, win!
2. What is your favourite thing that you sell ?
I must admit that it changes often and revolves around my latest amazing fabric find. I am madly addicted to Liberty of London cotton lawn and have a growing collection of fabrics as they bring out ‘seasonal’ collections twice yearly which means I never have time to get bored with what they produce.
3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?
I started fiddling around with fabrics and buttons late last year and made a bunch for my daughter’s school’s Fete which sold incredibly well. This then inspired me to make presents for my friends, who then gave me the confidence to start a little business, which I did in February 2011. I have an online store via Etsy which enables me to sell to all corners of the world.
4. Who inspires you to create ?
My friend Jacquie has been creating numerous hand-made pretties for the last few years under the name ‘Under the Shade of a Bonsai Tree’ and has stalls in Hobart at their amazing markets, and also Etsy and MadeIt web-shops, I think of her as my mentor and inspiration!
5. What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?
I live on the same block as the TWNH and have been involved in it in a number of ways since I moved there in 2002, the same year my first child was born. I love that it is local and supportive to the women in my direct community. The price is affordable to hold my first stall and although I’m nervous, I’m also very excited to get to know more of the crafters in my community.
6. Coffee or tea?
Oh coffee! I could not survive without a coffee each morning! I have three young children and luckily an amazing industrial Italian coffee machine which helps me get through each and every day!
7. And how many do you need to be market ready ?
Just the one, I’ll be nervous as it is my first every market so I want to be alert and not too jittery!
8. What’s the best thing about living in the Thornbury area ?
The diversity and creativity whether that be musical, literary, art and craft, food, or anything else. You could never accuse our community of being bland!
9. Name three crafty things that you can’t live without :
My fabric collection, my computer which helps me to source fabrics, findings, new ideas and communicate as a full time mother, and my kids who are crafty in their own right and also great for giving positive criticism and being fabulous models of my goods!
10. One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....?
I guess just how grateful I am for the fantastic support I have had from my friends in the creation of my new business, friends who have helped me with design, IT help, supplies, idea, positivity and encouragement.

Stall Holder Spotlight - Cathie from Melbourne Epicure

Welcome to the first of our series of Stall Holder spotlight interviews.
Our market wouldn't be complete, or nearly as friendly and yummy without regular food genius and all round lovely lady, Cathie from Melbourne Epicure.
Beautiful image courtesy of Melbourne Epicure

Cathie also has a beautiful blog where she shares recipes, insights and beautiful photos.
Thankyou Cathie for taking some time out this week for a chat with us :

1. What do you create ?
I bake lots of delicious sweets, cupcakes, pear & almond tarts, lemon tarts, gingerbread, cookies, savoury tarts, herb breads and other seasonal goodies
2. What is your favourite thing that you sell ?
I have to say gingerbread people because no matter what, people always love a good gingerbread and they always sell out
3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?
Have been baking for the last 4 1/2 years
4. Who inspires you to create ?
My friends, my family, people who love what I bake and look forward to seeing me at a market so they can buy some yumminess
5. What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?
After having our first child, we decided to try selling at farmers markets so my partner and I got our food permits & certificates and started our little business selling things we love to make. My partner being a chef was a good incentive.
6. Coffee or tea?
definitely tea, yummy chai with soy and honey
7. And how many do you need to be market ready ?
I do all of my baking the day before and the morning of a market. Everything is freshly made so I am always a little sleep deprived come market day. The pre-market hurricane in the house is sorted after a market!
8. What’s the best thing about living in the Thornbury area ?
I love the craft, the community, the like minded people, the sense of belonging
9. Name three crafty things that you can’t live without :
I could not live without my mixer, my oven and my piping bag!
10. One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....?
I have just started up a Melbourne Epicure Facebook page as I was getting orders from friends and friends of friends for birthday cakes and cupcakes. I am loving every minute of it and hoping that this little business will keep growing day by day.

The first winter market was full of warmth.
Thank you to everyone who came along from stall holders to shoppers.

And on a personal note, as organiser of the market, this will be my last Made n Thornbury Market.
To all the makers, bakers and crafters it has been a pleasure working with you all. I wish you well into the future and thank you for helping to make Made n Thornbury such a great community market.
