MARCHing into 2015 Made 'n Thornbury Craft Markets

Excuse the very obvious pun in the title ! But, we've begun.....

It's always a treat to get back to our humble hall and fill it with beautiful handmade, talented stallholders, craft table and amazing food and coffee.  Friday night was no exception.

Yes, Melbourne's weather was a little unpredictable, but inside the hall was cosy and filled with handmade and hand-produced.

A big thank you to our very talented stallholders,  TWNH COM and staff, our happy shoppers and most importantly, our energetic and dedicated volunteers - we couldn't do it without you !

Delicious food and coffee provided by the equally lovely, CakeDayAu and Little Box Brownie.

Beautifully locally made jewellery, gifts and homewares :

Handmade by Rebecca, Bee One of A Kind and Gus and Kitty

And the good news is, we'll be back again on SATURDAY MAY 2ND 10am - 2pm.
Just in time for Mother's Day !

Made n Thornbury Community Market

Hhmmmm market day...what am I forgetting ?

In the lead up to a market, do you ever get that sinking feeling that you've forgotten something ?

Something really important.....

I've had that feeling ALL week, and keep checking my to-do list.

Hall - check
Clever Stallholders - check
New signage - check
Facebook, instagram, twitter - check
Blog posts - check
Coffee - check
CAKE - check

Hmmmmmm ! And then it came to me.........I'm missing Trisha !

Trisha, TWNH's esteemed Community Program's Coordinator retired at the end of last year. I know this to be true as we sent her off with cake (thanks Melbourne Epicure) Champagne, awkward but well intended speeches (yours truly) and a beautiful gift made by Drifting Cloud Designs and our talented stallholders.

However, the run up to this market has been markedly different without Trisha. For starters, just where is the purple basket with all the market day bits and bobs ??
Does anyone know where the magic broom is stored ??

However, much more than practicalities, it's Trisha's unique and vibrant energy that I and many others will miss.

With a jingle of Made 'n Thornbury purchased Kate Campbell earrings, Trisha swept into the market bringing a smile, an encouraging word to Stallholders and a sometimes booming voice to remind folks that the raffle was this way and you really should try the coffee/cake/craft/wine.

Passionate about women's issues globally and locally, nothing made Trisha happier than seeing local women succeed at Made 'n Thornbury.

I'm sure we'll see Trisha at the market, more relaxed and without a market day care in the world.

In the meantime, if you see me muttering to myslef, the broom is in the cleaning cupboard !

Made by a Mzungu is a Preston-based artisan.  "My makings go by the name of Made by a Mzungu. A 'mzungu' is a person of foreign descent and you hear it constantly when travelling in East Africa. A place that I love travelling to and one that inspires some of my creations."

Made by a Mzungu creates one of a kind resin jewellery and art work pieces. Her stunning works feature vintage wallpaper, photos and stamps.

Millie 'n Daisy is a kiwi who has called Australia home for 26 years.  Like many of us, Donna learnt her knitting skills from her Nan and has been an avid crafter ever since.
"In 2011, I completed TWNH's Make Your Craft Business course and Millie' n Daisy was created. As well as being an outlet for my creations, I have gained a large network of like-minded women whom have become close friends."

Millie 'n Daisy create handmade cards, gifts and accessories. Crocheted creatures feature on her stall to brighten everyone's day.

Both Millie 'n Daisy and Made by a Mzungu were part of the talented team who decorated the tables at our 2014 TWNH annual women's dinner

Gianna of Knit One, Square One is another one of our talented stallholders, whom after completing TWNH's Make Craft Your Business Course, has successfully turned her craft into a small business.

"I grew up in a house where craft was a normal part of our everyday life. The table always had a project on it. Once the evening meal was over and the dishes done, my mother, sisters and I would sit and make."

Sound familiar ?

Gianna now puts these skills to clever work creating one of a kind pieces that a treat to see and hold.
