Stallholder Spotlight - Angelina From Tea and Sympathy

It's market day TODAY

and we are very pleased to welcome Angelina from Tea and Sympathy to the market.

1. What do you create ?

My business is about sourcing beautiful leaf teas that I think people will love. Tea is a natural product that has been grown and enjoyed in Asia for a couple of thousand years before it made its way to the west. I don’t create the tea! but I do aim to inspire an interest in, and appreciation for the depth and diversity of tea.
2. What is your favourite thing that you sell ?

I have a range of delectable ‘Blue’ or oolong teas that I absolutely love. I have to try not to drink all my stock! They have such interesting and diverse flavour characteristics, but are relatively unknown outside Asia. I want to tell people about them!

3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?

I have been a tea enthusiast for some time, but it has been the last year or so that I have been actively buying and tasting teas from around the world, and educating myself about the leaf!
4.Who inspires you to create ?

I feel inspired hearing and reading stories about people who have followed a passion and have successfully created a livelihood around that.
Lately I’ve met some great people doing interesting things with tea – Anne Norman aka Camellia Cha who authored Curiosi-tea, and May King Tsang are just two who come to mind.
My partner – a graphic designer and generally creative person – inspires me to ‘think outside the box’.
5.What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?

Selling at the market is a great way to engage with people, find out what they are after, and share some knowledge about tea. I like people to be able to smell and taste the teas that they buy, and at the markets you can do that – I usually have a few pots of different teas on the table for people to try.

6.Coffee or tea?

I don’t mind the odd cup of coffee, but I have a constant supply of green and blue teas throughout the day!

7.And how many do you need to be market ready ?

I would like more but I usually miss out in the rush of getting everything ready.
8.What’s the best thing about living in the Thornbury area ?
The people. And the sense of community.

9.Name three crafty things that you can’t live without :

I love handmade soaps - I can never have too many of those !

10.One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....?

I love talking about tea so come and have a chat whether or not you’re in the market for some new tea!

Stall Holder Spotlight - Tania from French Avenue Skin Creamery.

Good morning!

How did Friday get here so quickly again......?

Now only TWO WEEKS til our last market for 2011,

and we have an amazing list of stallholders for you.

One of our regular stallholders, Tania from French Avenue Skin Creamery
has joined us today for our Stallholder Spotlight.

Tania her beautiful products and very cute assistant at market.

1. What do you create ?
A range of skin care products made from natural plant ingredients and pure essential oils.

2. What is your favourite thing that you sell ?
Heaven in a Jar – a heavenly body and hand cream blended with mandarin, vanilla and sandalwood.

3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?
Since my first child was a baby. Nearly 10 years.

4.Who inspires you to create ?
The things I see (and smell) in nature. And happy customers!

5.What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?
I visited the market a few times, as a shopper, and thought my products might fit in well with the mix of stalls.

6.Coffee or tea?
Definitely coffee.

7.And how many do you need to be market ready ?
About 3.

8.What’s the best thing about living in the Thornbury area ?
The Made ‘n Thornbury Market. ***

9.Name three crafty things that you can’t live without :
I’m actually not that crafty! The only things I make are aromatherapy products. I can’t live without lavender, frankincense and eucalyptus essential oils.


10.One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....?
I’ve just finished first year of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT. Hooray!

Make Craft Your Business Sucess Story : Angela - Made by a Mzungu

If you were at our October 15th Market,

I'm sure you saw and were impressed by the beautiful  resin jewellery 

handmade by Angela from  Made by a Mzungu.

What you might not know,

is that Angela recently took part in our Make Craft Your Business Course.

We caught up with Angela to get her thoughts on the course and her very first market :

1.  What do you create?

I create resin jewellery pieces - brooches, pendants, cufflinks and earrings - using stamps and photos from my travels.

2.  What is your favourite thing that you sell?

My resin pendants and cufflinks - need more "boy" items.

 3.  How long have you been making/baking/creating?

I've been a craft "dabbler" most of my life trying all sorts of crafty things.  I've been making my resin jewellery since the beginning of the year.

4.  What prompted you to take part in the TWNH's "Make Craft Your Business" course?

The course sounded really interesting and I wanted to investigate what was involved if I wanted to take my hobby further.  It turned out to be one of the best courses I had ever done!

5.  What was the best thing you took from the course?

The course gave me the confidence to sell my pieces at a market.

6.  How has your approach to your craft and business changed since you completed the course.

Since completing the course I've gained confidence in my product - I know what I make is good enough to sell.

7.  Tell us about your first market!

My first Made 'n' Thornbury market was such a positive experience - it was relaxed, friendly and had a really nice atmosphere.  It was also a great morale booster for me as I sold a number of my pieces!

8.  Coffee or tea?  How many do you need to be market ready?

One weak latte with one sugar please - that does it for me.

9.  Name three crafty things that you can't live without.

Resin, pictures and glue.

10.  One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you.

I have a great love of Africa - especially East Africa - the sights, the colours, the vibrancy  - can't wait to get back.

Stallholder Spotlight.....Helen from Miss Ruby May

 Only a few days til our "Spring" market,

this Saturday October 15th, 10am - 2.30pm.

In the last of our October Stallholder spotlight series, we are very pleased to chat with
the very lovely Helen from Miss Ruby May.

Miss Ruby May is a bit of an icon in the local handmade world,
her vintage inspired dolls are very recognisable and one was even given as a gift
to Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom's baby boy !


No need to be a Hollywood bub to get your Miss Ruby May doll,
just visit  your local Thornbury Craft Market !

  

1.     What do you create ?

Handmade dolls using floral and vintage inspired fabrics and childrens accessories including cushions, aprons, small denim handbags and bunting.

2.    What is your favourite thing that you sell ?

My favourite item would be my dolls, however choosing my favourite doll is too difficult!

3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?

I have been sewing and crafting for as long as I can remember.                                    

4.Who inspires you to create ?

I love everything from Cath Kidston, an english designer who has gorgeous fabrics and products. My main inspiration to create my products actually comes from all the beautiful fabrics that I am always on the hunt for.

5.What made you want to sell your goodies at the market?

After making gifts for family and friends for a while, I decided to try the markets to see how my products would go.

6.Coffee or tea?

Neither - I'm a hot chocolate girl!

7.And how many do you need to be market ready ?

 Just the one is enough.

8.What’s the best thing about living in the Thornbury area ?

I have lived in Thornbury for nearly 17 years and I love it. Thornbury has great cafes, fantastic food stores and all within walking distance. It's also close to the city.

 
9.Name three crafty things that you can’t live without :

 I can't live without my fabric of course, my sewing machine and a sharp pair of scissors.

10.One more thing that our lovely market shoppers should know about you....? 
I have to admit I am a hoarder of fabrics and trims, something that my husband and two boys are now used to!

Cards, Booties and small baby items

Cards, but booties are getting better all the time.

3. How long have you been making/baking/creating ?

Most of my life

4. Who inspires you to create ?

These days it's other crafters, but as a young child, probably my grandmother.

5. What made you want to sell your goodies at the market ?

I'd like other people to appreciate what I make and maybe, make some money as well.

6. Coffee or tea ?

Tea

7. And how many do you need to be market ready ?

Just the one, two on a stressful day.

8. What's the best thing about living in Thornbury?

I live just outside of Thornbury, so I would have to say the Made 'n Thornbury market!

9. Name three crafty things that you can't live without :

Paper, Wool and Buttons

I've worked with craft for a long time and love to see people's faces and reactions when they like something.
